At Mace, our mission is to be the safest in our industry. We are driven to occupy this position because only by being the best can we set new standards, fully protect our clients’ investments, and most importantly, have absolute confidence in our ability to protect the wellbeing of our people and the people on our sites.

An exceptional record

We set high standards for our health and safety performance and constantly strive to improve. Over the course of our 21-year history, we have never had a prosecution; we have built an Accident Incidence Rate (AIR) that is 300% better than the construction industry; and our dedicated health and safety management service is the eighth largest H&S consultancy in the UK property and construction sector. We have won two Swords of Honour from the British Safety Council, out of only 40 awarded worldwide, and are currently working toward a third.

A robust strategy

Most organsations boast health and safety systems, but few have a strong strategy to support it. At Mace, we believe that a system is only as good as its ability to constantly improve. We employ a multi-component benchmarking strategy that aims to:

• Enhance the skills of our staff and supplier workforce
• Embed safe values and behaviours through cultural change
• Enhance standards and performance through measurement
• Improve collaborative working and effective communications

Behavioural change

A central tenet of our corporate approach to health and safety is that safe behaviour doesn't stop when a project ends. We strive to effect long-term change among our employees, empowering them to become ambassadors of wellbeing from project to project and in all aspects of their lives.

Training

Critical to our success is regular and ongoing training. We work with our people and supply chain to ensure they have the tools they need to manage, enforce and perpetuate a positive health and safety environment.

Leadership

We recognise that no health and safety apporach is successful unless it comes from leadership. Our dedicated health and safety experts work on an individual and group basis with our leaders to support and enable them to deliver effective health and safety on site.
