Veolia Capital Programme | Mace
Since December 2005 Mace has been managing asset delivery for Three Valleys Water (now Veolia) which supplies clean water to more than three million people in a region to the north of London that extends from Woking in the west to Great Dunmow in the East.
Mace has helped to deliver a £250m capital programme over a five year period (AMP 4 2005 to 2010) in which we undertook design, engineering, programme and project management, contract administration, commercial management and client income maximisation.
The programme comprised diverse projects ranging from treatment works, pumping stations and reservoirs to the replacement of over 600km of water mains. Mace also provided support to developers and individuals requiring new connections into the clean water network. The contract award involved the transfer of 48 personnel to Mace, each with varying skills including specialist engineering, project management and customer care expertise.
Together with Veolia, Mace had the responsibility of delivering projects to regulations set by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) and the Water Regulator Ofwat. These included the improvement of water quality, service to customers and the delivery of projects (quantity and on-time delivery).
Mace believed that the Veolia's business objectives could be achieved by better programme and project management and through process improvement using skills from other parts of the Mace business and from other industries. An ethos of continuous improvement was established, demonstrated by proactive engagement in workshops with the client and through internal department development.
The hard work resulted in success at the Management Today/Unisys Service Excellence Awards 2006 when the team was named both overall winner and winner of the manufacturing/engineering category. The judges were won over by 'the firm's carefully planned and meticulously executed approach to entering a new market.'
This is a truly integrated Mace project with Sense, Macro and Mace Sustain working on the commission. In addition, Mace project managed the delivery of the fit out and transition to a the new headquarters building in 2009.
